MOCHA RISING
posted: September 7, 2009

My book on the famous white whale Mocha Dick is finally completed. My good
friend Dan Smith (Wall St. Journal) and his wife Virginia Cahill ( New York
Times) helped me to create the book and Dan was the one who originally
encouraged me to do it. He, with the aid of his lovely wife, meticulously
hand stitched and bound each volume and designed the books from stem to
stern. It's a very limited edition (32 copies) all signed and numbered. The
pictures are reproductions from my original suite of linocuts (11 in all)
and have a little accompanying text on each facing page about the life and
lore of the whale that was the real life inspiration for Moby Dick. The
books are printed on Antique White Folio paper with a nice tooth. The rest of the illustrations can be seen in my "Mocha Dick Project" gallery.
If any of you rich illustrators wish to part with 400 clams, you can be a
proud owner of this rare item.

"His great white hulk would rise up out of the water 'til he seemed to be standing on his tail and then he would slowly fall over like a building into the sea."
