AZ Opera Posters
posted:
For the opera "La Traviata", by Giuseppe Verdi a frail woman rejects her lovers devotion. She gives him a flower and asks him to return to her when it wilts. Upon his return he finds the woman dying from love sickness and regret.
The following 4 images were commissioned by the Arizona Opera Company for the 2007 season.  Back in Novemeber '06 I was contacted by Rodd Whitney at Cause Design in Philly to consider doing the posters for the next 4 seasons.

Their one major piece of direction was that they wanted to avoid human figures.
For the opera, "Lucia De Lammermoor". A derelict scottish castle sets the stage for this opera about secret lovers who exchange rings in honor of their devotion. The woman's older brother tries to force her to marry another for wealth. The woman kills her brother and herself.
For the opera, "The Magic Flute" about a young man who is set on a voyage to find a young love. On his journey he is test by fire and water, armed only with a flute for guidance.
For "Der Fleidermouse", translation is "The Bat". The opera is about a cheating husband who goes to costume balls adorned with a bat mask. He seduces women with a pocket watch.
