Society of Illustrators Gold

I was happy and humbled today when I got the call from Anelle Miller and Kate Feirtag at The Society of Illustrators in NYC. She informed me that one of my illustrations had been selected to receive a Gold Medal in the Illustration 52 editorial show. I can't really describe how surreal this experience is for me, given that I started out in this business 18 years ago assigning illustrations to the industry legends I now consider close friends.
It's an amazing coincidence that I got the call at the precise moment I was wrapping-up a handful prints to send up to Julia Breckenreid who had ALSO just been awarded a Gold Medal in the editorial show. Weird wild stuff. Congratulations to you Julia, you deserve it.
Below is the piece which received the medal. Peter Storch and I have done a number of covers together now for The New Times. This image was for a cover story about infighting within the Phoenix Police Department over the selection of the Police Chief. When I was a bit worried about the intensity of the image, Peter's enthusiasm pushed it through the approval process. Thanks, peter. I look forward to many more.
Cheers!
