This one is for David Gothard.

A few years back, when I was living in Salt Lake City, I would go “dumpster diving” in the old bookstores’ dumpster next door to where I worked as an in house illustrator. I found a lot of great paper, clothing, and every so often would find a gem of a book. One of these gems was a book of David Low’s political cartoons from WWII. David Low was an English political cartoonist, and the book is titled- “Years of Wrath- A cartoon History 1931-1945” By David Low.

The book was in terrible shape, and I had to do a lot to save it. I bet if you looked online, you could find a copy on Alibris, or even Amazon…in better condition.

Much like David Gothard’s work, David Low’s work is based on sound drawing, and doesn’t shy away from serious issues.
I wonder if this was a hard sell to the art director or editor? Different times I imagine..
