D.J. Rekha

This portrait of D.J. Rekha ran in this week's New Yorker magazine.  She was spinning at the Prospect Park Band Shell in Brooklyn tonight.  The "Bollywood in Brooklyn" night featured a screening of the 1977 Hindi musical "Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin" and a performance by the D.J., who has been sharing the joys of updated Punjabi folk music with her "Basement Bhangra" parties at S.O.B.'s in NYC for the past decade.  Some other sketches are below.
