I had the pleasure to teach for two days during July at the Bronx Zoo and Bronx River for the Society of Illustrators Summer Illustration Art Academy teaching kids ages 9-13. We covered gesture and landscape drawing and introduced the kids to watercolor painting.
The Society of Illustrators has made a difference for 100 at-risk youth from the most vulnerable neighborhoods in New York City through the newly established Summer Illustration Art Academy. The program is a curriculum-based project developed in accordance with the NYS Learning Standards in the Visual Arts and funded in-part by a National Endowment for the Arts. It is also a collaborative effort with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. A show of the students’ work will open at the Society of Illustrators on Friday, November 5th from 5-8pm. Some photos from the outings below, for more information on the program please click here. It was a great turn out and a fun experience which I hope to take part again next year.
