Ellen Weinstein
Gay Bullying for Village Voice Media

I got a call for a great cover assignment on the topic of gay bullying. Having illustrated bullying stories before, I looked for the specific aspect of this story that made it different. The emphasis here is placing responsibility on the schools to not allow this terrorizing to happen. The writer has called it "The Gay Selma", a civil rights movement long over due.

Another challenge to the project was the potential use of the art on different covers with varying sizes and mastheads. The design of the image had to work with all possible applications. The cover was used on nine different newspapers and I enjoy seeing the iterations of it.
Thanks to Mike Kooiman, AD for being a pleasure to work with and Drawger friend, Andrew Nilsen for suggesting me.
