Andrea Zittel Exhibition
posted:
I saw part of an interesting show today of the Artist Andrea Zittel. She is having two exhibitions in NYC right now, one is in the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria which is right across from Grand Central Station in NYC. The main show of her (?) work is at the New Museum of Contemporary Art located in Chelsea. (I have yet to see this show.) The show at the Whitney @ Altria consists of several modular living pods, each decked out in a different manner. They are called "Wagon Units". As I have been interested in creating affordable living spaces on some property I have, I was particularly attracted to this show. One pod has a lounge type setting with headphones playing ambient music. Here one can lounge and watch the show info with slides projected onto a wall in a dim lit empty room. The odd thing about the big empty space was the collection of quasi-homeless people sitting about, but not in the Pods. Some had a "Do not touch" sign on them, but most seemed at least touchable. Her web site is not very good, images are small. Some links: http://www.zittel.org
