Maleficium

AUGUST 14, 2012
A while ago I worked on the cover of this really interesting book written by Martine Desjardins, «Maleficium».
As described in the Indextrious Reader «...this title takes on desire and sensuality, framed as a set of 7 tales told in a confessional. The book is framed as the dark revelations of Vicar Jerome Savoie, a 19th Century Montreal priest who has broken the seal of the confessional to record these shocking tales -- and just by opening this mysterious manuscript itself, the reader risks excommunication.

The tales take place in locations like Sringar, Zanzibar, the Arabian peninsula, Yemen, Oman, Shiraz, and Nablus, reflecting a hint of the 1001 Nights. »
After a round of sketches trying to convey the religious aspect of the seven stories and the 1001 nights feeling, the editor decided to go with the simplest set up.
I've tried to keep the shape of the body as well as the colors as graphic as possible so it stands out as a cover.
Originaly published in french in Canada by Alto, Maleficium is now translated in english by Talonbooks.
