Obama in Baltimore
posted:
After the crowd retreated.
Our new president made his way down to Washington yesterday on a whistlestop tour, stopping in Baltimore. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to finally see him and more importantly to see the excitement that he has generated in my city.
I rode my bike downtown as there were quite a few street closures, I hate driving, and I'm a cyclist. When I got there the line wove around at least ten city blocks. I got in line not really expecting to get into the area where he would be speaking, but a few hours later there I was in a sea of humanity, a crowd pulsing with excitement-wow!
There were so many variations on Obama wear.
Overextended zoom.
People left in a hurry.
A bunch of cyclists and pedestrians waiting at the bridge that crosses the railroad tracks. Obama's train departed with a military helicopter escort and we waved and shouted. Lincoln bypassed Baltimore on the way to his inauguration so Obama's brief stop was symbolic in many ways.
Riding uptown was surreal as they hadn't allowed vehicular traffic through but allowed bikes, I was just a couple minutes behind the motorcade.
