It seems that most of my posts feature work for the NY Times or Soojin, so here are a couple more. This first piece was done for this past Sunday's Week in Review. The subject was how the economy follows patterns much like weather. Kelly Doe was the AD on this and gave me the freedom to keep the concept loose and abstract. I wouldn't say this is abstract but I tried to stay away from money imagery, actually my rough of this had no money icons but we added a few subtle references in the final, they kind of get lost in everything else, good.
The second piece, the bather, was done for Soojin. I just love when she calls and gives me one word direction like "reflection" or something like that. When I was working on concepts for this piece I kept going back to M.C Escher but god has that stuff been knocked off so much, and even though it's fantastic work we are all so used to seeing it in the back of Spencer Gifts, so I tried to be inspired a bit and leave it at that, as it should be.
