And a bonus cover since 'tis the season. This one features a photo of comedian Bobby Clark dressed up as Santa Claus. For those not in the know, one of his trademarks was a pair of eyeglasses which he drew directly on his face with grease paint. Hirschfeld wrote of him, "...(he) had a tremendous influence on comic performers after him, everyone copied that walk, including Groucho Marx...Bobby Clark invented it, sort of hugging the ground with his knees. It was a very strange anatomical disfiguration that captures his, and his character's personality. And of course it's the kind of vibrant motion that always captures my eye and imagination." Although he did a few short films with his partner Paul McCullough back in the thirties, his career took place mostly on the Vaudeville, Burlesque and Broadway stage. Consequently, he is largely forgotten today. Where are Drew Friedman and Lou Brooks when you need them?
