ELLE Editor's Sketches
posted:
Collage is an improvisational art, and so I generally don’t do sketches.  But here’s one case where sketches were invaluable. I did this piece for ELLE magazine’s “Green” issue, with sketches provided and drawn by editor Lisa Chase. Her sketches proved to be useful in helping me figure out what went where. In fact, Lisa figured that all out for me. My job was to make it work cohesively, which still left me a lot of room for improvisation. Both pieces were done in photoshop.  First image: 119 layers. I accidentally flattened the photoshop file for the second, so I have no idea how many layers it is. The final page layout was designed by Deputy Art Director Florence Sicard.
