Many thanks to Staci Ford, honorary associate professor in history at the University of Hong Kong, for inviting me to present my work to her class this past Tuesday. I gave a 30 minute powerpoint presentation showing my illustrations - mostly those published in the NY Times Op-Ed Letters column -  on the theme of American pop culture, and I answered questions afterwards. The students were very engaged and engaging, and I had a wonderful time.
My presentation dealt with many themes such as politics and election issues (very appropriate since the next day was election day in the U.S.), immigration, ethnic diversity, the health and education systems, and the pervasiveness of corporate advertising.  I also wanted to show the students my work process including sketches so they could get a sense of what it's like to work on an actual assignment. Here's a Letters assignment that I included in the presentation about closing the U.S. military detention camp at Guantanamo Bay:
My sketches for closing the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay. I asked the students to vote with a show of hands which one they would have chosen before showing them the art as it was published:

I also shared some of my recent Hong Kong sketchbook work with the class.
