It was a treat and a half creating a poster for the city of Chicago's big, annual book festival, sponsored by the Chicago Tribune. Likewise, it was awesome to work on the project with my ol' pal, Art Director David Syrek.

After a change in the poster size, David thought it was important to bring in a bit more of a community vibe.
The illustration starts with the image on the right, a black and white painting that I then scan and go to town with in Photoshop. Since the poster was getting a little more complex, I kept the people in the background closer to a gray scale so the colorful flower / book head and the type would stand out a bit more.
