This is one in a series for Orlie Kraus at the Wall Street Journal. This piece was for an article about the history of inventions, and that there has been a long tradition of prizes offered to foster inventions in technology. A key element in the article was that you often just needed to follow the money to see where innovation has taken place.
 
As always, Orlie was fantastic to work with.
Sketches also included "building a better mousetrap".
Below is the second in the series. This piece was for a related article about the future of inventions. Rather than try and illustrate something specific within the article, we chose to create something simple yet fantastical.
