In yesterday’s Times Week in Review the lead story compared US with the Roman Empire. The final graph is the kicker: about Emperor Valerian (from a prominent political family) who is defeated near the Euphrates, and is captured and brought to Persia where the king amuses himself by using the emperor as a footstool for mounting his horse.
People upset about Iran’s current resurgence should be VERY upset at the ones who made it all possible.
