Sandy, Terry and Me

FEBRUARY 6, 2009
Last week at the Whitney my daughter Terry (SVA class of ’12) and I dug the great, playful work of Calder from his Paris years in the late 20’s, early 30’s.  Afterward, over pizza at Serafina’s, we took the Calder spirit to the paper tablecloth: drawing heads without lifting the pen.  How great when art sends you on your way with a melody you can hum.

BTW: I’ll be sad to miss everyone tonight at the SI opening.  I’m off to Lisbon to help judge the World Press Cartoon competition.  Back next week and will post with pix.  Meantime, congrats to all the great artists in the show tonight.
