Charles Ferguson, a first-time filmmaker, has made “No End in Sight”, a very cogent exploration how and when the war went “south” (as it does ever faster today) told in the words of Bush Administration “managers” of the occupation such as Jay Garner and Richard Armitage.  It depicts the breakdown of clear thought, communication and general competence.  It shows how we CREATED the insurgency by 1. Failing to set up a functioning government, 2. Firing all the Baath government officials and 3. Dissolving the army.  Run, don’t walk to this one.  And bring a Republican friend.

The news today of Karl Rove's "leaving" the White House is hard for me to celebrate.  I can't help but feel he's gone on to some sort of promotion.
Here's a case of nostalgia for something that never happened.  This cover was done for The Nation to be run the week Rove was (certainly) going to be indicted in the Plame Affair.  The long arm of the law was a size 32.

The collapse of the I-35 Bridge in Minneapolis, along with New York’s recent underground explosion, subway shut-down (not to mention the  widespread loss of New Orleans) beg the question: How do we like our tax cuts and wars so far? Here’s a poster/T-shirt I’d be delighted for someone to help produce. It’s time we get busy linking this rot with its root cause: the very successful US Conservative Movement.
PS: Bush announced yesterday that he will propose further tax cuts very soon.

Polls and perceived wisdom notwithstanding, Bush keeps winning and Friday’s warrantless surveillance act revealed how Bush does it.  He’s actually smart.  He knows the truth.   The Democrats, including purported tough-guy Jim Webb can be easily and instantly “masochized”.  Say the magic words “Soft On Terror” and they happily fold and beg for mercy. Imagine giving totally unchecked e-mail surveillance power, after all, to Alberto Gonzales.  ALBERTO GONZALES!  Is there anything left to say?  I guess nothing except that satire is dead.  And it has welts.

Yesterday came the news that Russia has annexed the North Pole!  It seems that global warming is quickly making arctic drilling much more viable.   And there’s tons of oil up there.
Clearly this will not stand.  The next National Intelligence Estimate will point to a certain Saddam Claus, a brutal Pole-ite dictator, who, posing a grave national threat; harboring weaponized coal lumps fitted to a reindeer-based delivery system.  While bombers engage the enemy, Special Ops fire surface-to-sled missiles.  Obama rushes to the scene. The State Department grows impatient with surviving penguins as they miss benchmarks in forming a government.

Picked up the WSJ today.  Seemed odd, like there were pieces missing.
