Food Olympics
posted:

If food decides to compete against each other, most likely veggies and fruit will end up at the podium, but granola bars and milk will be strong opponents. Speaking of milk, how about cookies? They're not the healthiest choice but we all love them and for sure they got the support of the fans.
Monoblock / Industry of Imagineering, from Argentina, recently commissioned me to design a set of characters for a card game based on food, and this would be the kind of conversations I would have with them- Could I give a mustache to the Oreo?, Can cheese breakdance? How about having the water doing meditation? Wait, is water food?-... There was a clear goal of pointing kids towards choosing the right food but we wanted all the characters to have some charm. Even the evil ones, like the french fries and the ice cream needed to be approachable to fit well with the rest of the set.

The deck came out as part of a collection featuring the amazing work of Roberto Cubillos, Elenio Pico and Cristian Turdera (who was also the designer of the project and terrific to work with).
Thank you Monoblock!

Maria's Voyage
posted:
Last week at the public library, I spotted Maria y Yo , a book written and illustrated by Miguel Gallardo about his daughter Maria, and brought it home to practice Spanish with the kids. Ben, our oldest son, got very interested in Maria and wanted to learn more about her universe. I told Miguel and just this morning he sent us a link to this wonderful short. Ben loved it and we hope you do too.

Thanks to Hanoch Piven for his article on the book.
