Silk screen print
After listening to Tim's post of John's classic, I thought it appropriate to post the silk screen print I did back in art school at Parsons School of Design. I was taking a silk screen course at the time John was shot so I decided to do a tribute print. The print had 19 different screens and I used transparent ink so there's actually many more colors. I did a series of 40 prints and even though many people offered to buy the print, I decided early on, I didn't want to profit on John's death like many others were. So I gave them away as gifts or traded with other artists. All was not good as my printing insrtuctor became jealous of all the attention I was getting even though he called my Lennon print one of the best technically silk screened prints he'd seen at Parsons. He preferred more of an abstract approach and decided my Lennon print was just a "cartoon" and not worthy to be included in the senior print show. I thought for the mere fact of John's recent death, that the print should be on display as a tribute to John. So, the night before graduation, I tucked my Lennon print under my shirt and slipped into the Parsons gallery and with a sly smile, I hung John on the wall with the rest of the student art. I knew John would have been proud. My instructor was not proud and failed me for the course.
